can we service or improve your banjo?

Leedy Solo Tone

Setup: a renovated Leedy SoloTone Tenor Banjo (1920s). Bridge and nut were adjusted, new strings fitted, head retorqued.

Leedy SoloTone Tenor Banjos were made in Indianapolis. They were uniquely engineered and were quite advanced for their time. The rim is machined from solid brass with a convenient top-tension arrangement pre-dating Vega and Gibson’s systems by several years.

This one is a very impressive-looking instrument, and also a beautifully designed piece. The headstock has “Leedy” and “Solo Tone” engraved into abalone inlay. The resonator back is beautifully finished walnut. The neck is bound, with plated brass and walnut rim and flange; laminated ebony/ walnut neck with abalone inlaid ebony 19 fret fingerboard, black hard shell case.

There has been a professional restoration. It has  had a full refret and plays and sounds very well, with the crisp tone typical of these brass-rim instruments. It is set up with a new head and modern handmade bridge. The original worn-out tuners have been replaced with new 4:1 planetary tuners.
